Why Start Your Own Business?

Most people daydreamed about a particular business that they would start––be it a nail salon, moving company, soda brand, or maybe even a newspaper––we’ve all been there. However, one factor separates the person who dreams from the person who does, and that factor is drive. It may seem a bit cliché, but it’s genuinely authentic.

The only people in this world who are genuinely ambitious in their goals are the ones that have the drive to do them. If you’ve already discovered your drive, then good on you! Congratulations, but there’s a lot more to that puzzle to unpack. To really discover your true, inner drive requires self-reflection, which is challenging for some people. This is why it’s important to consider your thoughts, feelings, decisions, and general rationale before attempting to start a business (which will be touched on in other blog posts).

Here are a few questions that you should genuinely ask yourself, and I mean genuinely. Don’t try and make up a response that you feel like I would like to hear. Be true to yourself.

  • What would be the purpose of starting a business for myself?
    • Is it purely monetary (which is okay)?
    • If not monetary, what do I want to accomplish?
      • How badly do I want to accomplish this feat?
  • Am I motivated in life?
    • If so, what motivates me to succeed?
  • Can I do it?
    • Yes, you can. Convince yourself the answer is yes. Mindset is key.
  • What is my drive? What is my motivation? Why do I want to succeed?
